Newsletter – 6 May 2021
These webpages are dedicated to the Men’s Trips & Mixed Trips Bowls Leagues, and we thank SDBL for use of their website to publish newsletters and league tables and as a means for clubs to submit their match results (more on this later).
Following the very sad passing of David Rutt (Humberside Trips – now Mixed Trips) and Brian Clark (Men’s Trips), I’m pleased to confirm that a new committee has been formed to run both leagues and that their legacy is in good hands for the foreseeable future. There is no doubt that we owe both men a debt of gratitude for the selfless commitment they gave to our sport for so many years.
Given stringent social distancing restrictions, the new committee has yet to meet but I want to thank them for volunteering and look forward to working with them in due course. In the meantime, a special mention must go to Mark Klinger for all the work he has done as Fixtures Secretary and in setting up these webpages in readiness for the start of the season. We’ve exchanged myriad emails and text messages, spoken on the phone many times but have yet to meet! Thank you for all your hard work.
With the worst of COVID hopefully behind us, competitive trips bowling will resume on 17 May. Below is some guidance to get us underway.
Match Start Times. 17 May – 8 August: 6:30pm. 9 August to the end of the season: 6pm.
Match Scoresheets. Follow this link to take you to the match scoresheets that Secretaries or Team Captains will need to download and print. These should be completed and signed as normal and retained by the home team for future reference.
Submission of Match Results. Follow this link to take you to the Match Results Submission form. Results should be submitted by the home team by the end of the week in which matches are played so that the league tables can be updated by the start of the following week. Once on this page, you will need the password from your Club Secretary before you can complete the form.
League Tables. Follow this link to check your standings in the League Tables.
The Constitution. Follow this link to view the Constitution agreed at the last AGM. This may need updating at the next AGM but contains the rules and will suffice for now subject to the following clarifications/amendments for the Mixed Trips League, following several enquiries:
Team Composition. Due to some clubs having very few female members to call upon, the minimum number of women required per team is reduced from two to one as discussed at the last AGM. However, in the spirit of this being a mixed league, those clubs who can are required to field more balanced teams whenever possible.
Rules. Matches are to be played over 18 ends in accordance with EBA rules.
Finally then good luck on the green. Let's hope the weather allows us to play all of our matches during this shortened season.
