Proposals for the 2020 S&DBL AGM received by December 1st 2019

  1. PROPOSAL BY THE S &DBL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Amend rule 3 to extend the mileage to 16 Mile to allow Bowls Clubs wishing to enter the S&DBL following the apparent demise of the HBDA Triples League

  1. PROPOSAL BY THE Scunthorpe B.C.

On behalf of Scunthorpe BC we would like to propose that the date of the final of the Eland Trophy Competition be arranged for either a Sunday, or left as a “flexible” date until it can be arranged around other County Competition finals.

In the last two years there have been clashes between the Eland Trophy Final and the Lincolnshire Ron Kitchen or Challenge Bowl Trophies on the same day, putting local Bowls Clubs who have qualified for both events in a situation of who best to support the County or Scunthorpe and District Bowls League competitions.

As a result of these clashes the SDBL Committee have been asked by teams in the last two years if it would be possible to re-arrange the final of the Eland Trophy to another date. This request was refused on all occasions and clubs affected have managed to put out teams to play in both events, but at a cost. However, as players get fewer and with clubs having less members it seems prudent to request some flexibility in this date for all concerned.

At the Eland Trophy final in 2019 Scunthorpe BC (12 players) played against Railway BC (10 players) at Belton BC. Both Clubs had teams that were also playing in finals at Skegness. This produced clubs dividing players between both events which is not ideal. We believe that some sense needs to prevail here, which can then fully satisfy both our League and our area bowls clubs chances of winning a Lincolnshire County competition for our area. Please can we discuss.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Grimbleby

Club Secretary

Scunthorpe Bowls Club

3) At the AGM of the North Lindsey Bowls Club, I was requested to send the following proposals for inclusion at the S&DBL ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of THE LEAGUE, to be held on Sunday 9th February 2020.

  1. Add to rule 12 a) Clubs refusing promotion or relegation will have the trophy engraved with the club’s name, the cash will be held by the S&DBL for future use and the club start next season with a points deficit of 12 points.

2.Rule 12 c) Eland Trophy, change the dates to read to first round to be played on the first Thursday in June and the second round to be played on the third Thursday in June.

4)BRIGG B.C.

Brigg Bowling Club wishes to propose an amendment to the Constitution of the Scunthorpe & District Bowls League as follows

Rule 16, Clause 16.(b). Last Sentence now states that a Bowls Club will only be allowed to cancel a maximum of two matches per season.

Brigg B.C. proposes that this should apply to each TEAM and read as follows:-

Each bowls team will only be allowed to cancel a maximum of two matches per season due to the inability to raise a full team, and must notify the Scunthorpe & District Bowls League Fixtures and Results Secretary that they are doing so”

The reason for this proposal is that the existing rule does not treat each club/team equally. A club with just one team playing 20 matches may cancel matches, ie 10% of their games, whereas a club with 3 teams playing 60 matches in total can only cancel 3% of their games. Our proposal therefore is to simply eliminate this disparity.

Yours Sincerely B.W.Clark, Secretary Brigg B.C.
